Hardware Control Panels

The LBP series of hardware control panels have fully configurable multi­color graphical LCD buttons which provide unmatched status display and control possibilities. Each button has the ability to perform multiple functions from a single push, thus hugely increasing the operational flexibility of the panels. Every action initiated from a button is executed in real­time and for operational safety and clarity, the button displays will only show the true and current status of crosspoint or parameter settings. There are no limits to the number of control “pages” within a panel and with a large toolbox of button navigation possibilities, even the most complex of workflows can easily be accommodated and in most cases simplified. Some panels include rotary encoders to make parameter control more intuitive and precise.

All panel network setup and automatic firmware updates are handled directly over the VSM network. All panels have two built­-in GPIOs which are free for any use and programmed as part of the normal GPIO configuration in vsmStudio.

LBP-39 V

The LBP-39 V panel is fitted with 39 multicolor graphical LCD buttons in a vertical order. A special mount is available to fit the panel into a desk notch which is originally designed for RCP/OCPs of standard broadcast cameras. All buttons are freely programmable with vsmStudio software, and their functions are fully assignable without restrictions of any kind. Thanks to the RGB backlight, button colors can be changed according to application requirements. Also, multiple functions can be assigned to a single button, to make operation even easier. ENC-17

The ENC-17 provides 17 rotary encoders on 1 U to extend a LBP Panel with additional functionality. The connection between panel and ENC-17 is serial via the RS422 port on the back of the LBP panel.

Soft Panels / vsmPanel

vsmPanel is a software that runs on a network PC workstation client (Windows based) and, from a design and setup perspective, acts identical to a hardware panel. In fact, the administrator can control and view any hardware panel in the system directly from this client, if needed. Any number of client licences are possible, each offering a different control interface if necessary. Normally operated in conjunction with a touchscreen for the most intuitive operation, vsmPanel allows free design and layout of an operational interface. Pictures and images can be incorporated into a panel design to help the user quickly and simply understand the navigation concept and control possibilities laid out in front of them.

Serial Interfaces

For third­party devices that only have serial connectivity and cannot interface to the VSM system directly via TCP/IP, a VSM SmartHub is required.

A SmartHub is the interface between Ethernet and a serial RS422 / RS232 port. That means any device that needs to be controlled by an Ethernet network, but only having serial interfaces, can be connected through a SmartHub. Several varieties of SmartHub can be ordered as listed below.

The SmartHub can be easily configured as serial RAW-mode and as serial protocol converter with a variety of different protocols.

SmartHub 111

The SmartHub 111 provides protocol conversion for two external devices (1x RS232, 1x RS422). When the redundant connection of external devices is required, two independent physical connections must be provided for the VSM system. If protocol converters are put to use, two physical SmartHubs are recommended for maximum security.

The SmartHub 111 provides 1x TCP/IP to 1x RS-232 and 1x RS-422. This device is administrated via the vsmDiscover software application. One external PSU.

SmartHub 208

The SmartHub 208 provides protocol conversion for eight external devices (8x RS422). When the redundant connection of external devices is required, two independent physical connections must be provided for the VSM system. If protocol converters are put to use, two physical SmartHubs are recommended for maximum security.

The SmartHub 208 provides 2x TCP/IP to 8x RS-422. This device is administrated via the vsmDiscover software application. Two external PSUs.

SmartHub 244

The SmartHub 244 provides protocol conversion for eight external devices (4x RS232, 4x RS422). When the redundant connection of external devices is required, two independent physical connections must be provided for the VSM system. If protocol converters are put to use, two physical SmartHubs are recommended for maximum security.

The SmartHub 244 provides 2x TCP/IP to 4x RS 232 and 4x RS-422. This device is administrated via the vsmDiscover software application. Two external PSUs.

SmartHub 280

The SmartHub 280 provides protocol conversion for eight external devices (8x RS232). When the redundant connection of external devices is required, two independent physical connections must be provided for the VSM system. If protocol converters are put to use, two physical SmartHubs are recommended for maximum security.

Crosspoint Bus IF

For use with Thomson routers, a special CommServer is available, which fully supports Thomson's Crosspoint Bus. If a redundant connection is necessary, two units will need to be installed.

The Crosspoint Bus Interface provides 1x TCP/IP to Thomson Crosspoint Bus. This device is administrated via the vsmDiscover software application. One external PSU.

GPI Interfaces

For connection of physical GPIOs to the VSM system, GPIO boxes are required that connect directly to the VSM network over TCP/IP. All VSM GPI interface units provide an Ethernet connection for direct communication with the Virtual Studio Manager system. The GPIOs are freely configurable in the vsmStudio software.

GPI-64

The GPI-64 interface unit can handle 64 GPI ins. This interface provides one TCP/IP for communication with Virtual Studio Manager.

All inputs are opto-coupled. With a form factor of just 1 RU and a depth of only 65mm, the unit can be easily installed in the back of a system rack. Screw lock 8-pin phoenix connectors are used for a secure connection. One external PSU.

GPO-64

UMD

Utilising VSM UMDs offers a number of unique benefits. More than eight independent three­colour Tally and text sections can be displayed on a single 19" unit. With a freely configurable pixel matrix, special configurations and layouts can easily be created including support for foreign language character sets. Connection to the VSM network is done via a SmartHub.

UMD-SD 19"

The UMD-SD 19" provides a free configurable pixel matrix with a number of Tally functions that can be defined according to requirements. If you split the panel into various sections, the multicolor display will change its range; only the specified section shows Tally while the others remain unchanged.

The unit is connected to Virtual Studio Manager via a SmartHub interface. Internally, a RS422 bus is connected to either the Proxy or is daisy chained to the next UMD.

UMD-SD ½ 19"

The UMD-SD ½ 19" provides a free configurable pixel matrix with a number of Tally functions that can be defined according to requirements. If you split the panel into various sections, the multicolor display will change its range; only the specified section shows Tally while the others remain unchanged.

The unit is connected to Virtual Studio Manager via a SmartHub interface. Internally, a RS422 bus is connected to either the Proxy or is daisy chained to the next UMD.

LTC Timesync

For time­dependent applications, LTC units are available to synchronise the VSM servers accurately to a facility time source. An analogue LTC input and a video sync input are available. The unit then connects to the VSM server via a USB connection.

LTC IF Dual

The LTC IF Dual contains two separate LTC interface units in one housing. Each provides conversion of two external Timecode reference signals to USB or RS232. An additional Video Sync input per unit guarantees highest accuracy for dependent control and signal management actions.
